| History |
| History of 78 rpm
gramophone record in India was started on |
| 8th November 1902 with a bengali
song sung by "Balatwala" |
| Shasimukhi
followed by two other female
singers Fanibala |
| and Gauharjan the same
day. This 78 rpm record tradition |
| continued more or less upto 1980. Along
with the release of |
| audio discs all the
production houses used to publish monthly |
| as well as yearly
catalogue of their new songs coming
to |
| market. These records and printed
catalogues are most |
| important documents of multi
dimentional aspect of our |
| the then life
both pre as well as post
independent society. |
| Unfortunately neither
the discs and catalogues has
been |
| scientifically
preserved nor systematically documented. Rather |
| the
circumstances made these valuable resources endangered |
| in
deed. |

| Deba Prasad has taken
this project as his mission of life
to |
| document this endangered
resources historically alive for the |
| next bengali music
generations to come.Collection of resources |
| was too expensive ,
hard and full of bitter
experiences in |
| every
step. Despite all
these, he has succeeded to complete |
| wo books on this
subject and rest
are under completion |
| Unparallel works he has done. |
